Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Devotion

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to travel to Milwaukee, WI for a conference. While I was there, one of my close mentors and myself made a decision to wake up every morning and walk the city. What we found during our first walk of the week helped to shape the rest of the week’s walks. On that morning, we found a piece of artwork that was right along the sidewalk heading towards the convention center. From this day on, we tried our best to find new statues or pieces of artwork that were hidden around the city. Everyday, we were hopeful in excitement to find a new piece of artwork. Without the artists who created the work, we would not have had this hope to start every day. Artwork brings hope. It brings hope in excitement for more and brings hope for different perspectives. Just like these artists, God creates works of art that bring excitement and hope. God’s creation of artists brings hope to the world. Without this creation, the world would be boring and dull. Artists bring color and joy into the world — they are the creators of hope. They are God’s artwork for the world to see.

Prayer

Good and gracious God, help us to find hope in this weary season. Amen.
