Psalm 63:1–8 (NIV)
1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.
2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
6 On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.
Devotion
The three summers working on staff at camp have been filled with so many Holy Spirit moments. It feels like every moment that I am at camp, I feel and see God everywhere. Every summer that I have left, I have found myself thirsting and longing for the Lord. I want to experience those same Holy Spirit moments that I did at camp. What I find so incredibly beautiful about this Psalm is that I see something new each time I read it. Just like how I always see something new when I am reading this Psalm, God always has a way of reminding me that no matter what season of my life I am in, those Holy Spirit moments are still happening. Even if they are not happening in the same way that they do at camp. This Psalm reminds me that God is with me. Amidst the chaos of this world, it is so easy to forget that God is with all of us and that those Holy Spirit moments are happening all around us. At camp we would always spend time sharing where we saw or felt God. It was a reminder to us of the way God and the Holy Spirit were on the move at camp. It has been quite a few months since I have done this on a consistent basis, but it is so important. So, I encourage you as you are finishing this devotion to take some time to think about a Holy Spirit moment that you had today or where you have seen God.
Prayer
“God of the Journey, lead us throughout our Lenten journey. Amen.”
