Psalm 121 (NIV)
Assurance of God’s Protection
A Song of Ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills —
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
4 He who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade at your right hand.
6 The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
7 The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
8 The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time on and forevermore.
Devotion
Have you ever looked closely at eyes? Until recently, I had never thought to look closely at eyes. They were just a thing that my mind automatically looked at without actually taking into account how spectacular they are, but once I started to take time and look at eyes, I found that each and every single eye is different. Some are one color, others are two. Some have gold flakes and others have speckles. Cats have different eyes than humans and humans have different eyes than birds. Every eye is unique. And what’s even more crazy is that every single eye is carefully created by God. God took time to add those lines of green into someone’s brown eyes or carefully perfected the color of the ocean in another’s. Your eyes are more unique than your fingerprint. Your iris has around 256 unique characteristics, while your fingerprint only has 40. Think of how specific God made your eyes to make them just for you. Eyes give me hope; hope in a time when everything is blurred together. Eyes show the beauty of God’s creation and help us to see the hope in the world. Hope that is often missed because we don’t take time to look closely at it. What hope do you see in the eyes of others?
Prayer
Good and gracious God, help us to find hope in this weary season. Amen.
