Psalm 118:26–29

26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

From the house of the Lord we bless you.

27 The Lord is God,

and he has made his light shine on us.

With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession

Up to the horns of the altar.

28 You are my God, and I will praise you;

you are my God, and I will exalt you.

29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;

his love endures forever.

Devotion

When I read this Psalm, I immediately thought of thankfulness. This summer at camp towards the end of each week, I would sit around a campfire with my campers, and we would each go around and say something we were thankful for aloud. There was something powerful about saying what we were thankful for aloud. Every week I did this with my campers, I could feel the Holy Spirit present amid doing that. It was a reminder to me every week to express what I am thankful for aloud. Amid all the chaos and the never-ending to-do list, we can all easily forget to express what we are thankful for and give thanks to the Lord for that. I would encourage you to stop and give thanks wherever you are. If you are around others, I encourage you to express what you are thankful for aloud. Perhaps you can experience a Holy Spirit moment and be reminded that God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Prayer

Ever-Present Spirit, surprise us with knowledge of and trust in your presence, that we might journey with you from life into life everlasting. Amen.
