Luke 18:31–34 (NIV)

31 Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.”

34 The disciples did not understand any of this. Its meaning was hidden from them, and they did not know what he was talking about.

Devotion

This passage is a prophecy told by Jesus to his disciples; however, it was information that was not yet meant for them to hear. I think about this in a few different ways: one, everything my parents told me growing up; two, everything my professors have told me in their classes; and three, what I try to tell myself. What I mean by all of this is that we are given so much information everyday of our lives, but it is impossible to absorb it all, or even understand it all. For with time, everything will be revealed. This means that all the advice that our families give us, our professors give us, even what we tell ourselves, will in time make sense. Even though we are not meant to get it now, eventually there will be clarity and peace.

Even this far in my life I have found so much that I was told about before I was ready to hear it, but now that I am experiencing more of my life, I go back to my parents or professors and tell them how much what they said means to me. Maybe it is just me, but I have so many “ah-ha” moments all the time, where some concept just makes sense.

This is honestly what I think of heaven, the biggest “ah-ha” moment. Where everything that we are put though in our lives finally makes sense and gives us the peace that we are promised.

Prayer

I ask you to share a moment of prayer with me. Lord, I thank you for the blessings of life, and for all the “ah-ha” moments that you have placed everywhere. May I continue to discover the plan that you have set for me, so that I can further spread your love. Amen.
