2 Corinthians 4:16–5:5 (NIV)

16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

5 For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Meanwhile we groan, longing to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, 3 because when we are clothed, we will not be found naked. 4 For while we are in this tent, we groan and are burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed instead with our heavenly dwelling, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Devotion

The more we age, the wiser we become. Getting old should be exciting, God has put us through many experiences and has renewed our souls every day we are alive. Everyday we should be learning new things and trying to grow as people in our faith. Everyday should be looked at as an opportunity to expand our knowledge, and also to share our knowledge with other people. When we are living each day, we should be trying to set our eyes on the unseen, meaning we should be setting our eyes on God and what future He has for us. The future we plan out is not guaranteed because we are not the planners of our lives, God is. We should be happy about this because we are not perfect humans so our plan is going to be flawed, but God’s plan will have purpose and fulfillment in it. All of the things we have here on Earth are just temporary and they will have no value to us in heaven. God does not care what material things we have on Earth, or how many friends we have, what He cares about most is our character and that we had our eyes on Him.

God of the Ages, throughout our years grow us in wisdom, in knowledge, and in compassion. Amen.
